Alaska Warm Wood offers alternative heating solution

Back to the future might be a great slogan for Alaska Warm Wood Heating of Kenai. Wood heat, steeped in Alaskan history, is now being looked to as an alternative heating solution for the future that can replace your primary heating fuel source used for forced air or hot water systems. Unlike the traditional barrel stove, or indoor fireplace that has served many a sourdough, new technology allows the wood burner to stay outdoors, eliminating smoke, creosote, dirt, and wood debris from your home. According to Jon and Karen Cress of Alaska Warm Wood Heating, the wood boiler was designed by a couple of dairy farmers from Minnesota, "The entire unit sits outside next to your wood pile in an out building or shed that is available with the unit, then we run insulated pipes from the boiler itself into the house which connects to your existing forced air or radiant heat and actually does away with your oil or gas fired unit, unless you wish to keep it as back up," explained Cress.

The Aqua-Therm unit unlike traditional wood stoves only burns wood as needed, "It's basically like your oil or propane tank only firing fuel as needed. The sealed damper and forced draft on the unit only kindles when the thermostat calls for heat, on a typical winter day the boiler only needs stoking once every 12 hours for all our heating needs," said Cress. Karen and John Cress have nine children and live in Nikiski in an 8,000 sq. ft. home. "I feel very safe not having any flame source, carbon monoxide, or chimneys in side our home, no dirt, dust or smoky ceilings like with traditional wood or other fuel sources. It provides a very comfortable steady temperature 24hours a day," added Karen.

Alaska Warm Wood is your local Aqua-Therm dealer for outside wood burning appliances and also offer biomass boilers and complete radiant systems as well as pressurized indoor boilers built by Royall Eco-One to ASME Standards by certified welders that provide comfortable, economical, and environmentally friendly alternatives for homes, shops, and light commercial use.
